The Kaduna State Government has officially launched the Kaduna State Family Planning Strategic Plan (2026–2030) and the Costed Implementation Plan, reaffirming its commitment to improving reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health, while accelerating the attainment of Universal Health Coverage across the state.
The event, held at Hotel Seventeen, Kaduna, was presided over by Her Excellency, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, who represented His Excellency, Senator Uba Sani, CON, Executive Governor of Kaduna State.
In her keynote address, the Deputy Governor described the Strategic Plan as more than a policy document, noting that it represents hope for women, children and families across Kaduna State. She emphasised that family planning is a life-saving intervention that empowers individuals and couples to make informed reproductive choices, reduces preventable maternal and infant deaths, promotes women’s health and dignity, and strengthens human capital development.
She reaffirmed the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to ensuring that every woman, regardless of her location or socio-economic status, has access to accurate reproductive health information and quality family planning services. She further stressed that the successful implementation of the Strategic Plan would require sustained political commitment, adequate financing, strong partnerships, accountability, and collective action from government, development partners, traditional and religious institutions, healthcare workers, civil society and communities.
Earlier, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma K. Ahmed, welcomed participants and expressed appreciation to the Gates Foundation for its generous support and strategic partnership in the development of the Family Planning Strategic Plan.
She also commended the technical teams from the Ministry of Health and partner organisations whose dedication and expertise produced a comprehensive roadmap for expanding equitable access to quality family planning services across all 23 Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.
The Commissioner noted that the Strategic Plan provides clear priorities for strengthening service delivery, improving commodity security, building the capacity of healthcare workers, enhancing monitoring and evaluation, mobilising sustainable financing, and increasing community demand for family planning services.
She called on all stakeholders to move beyond the launch of the document and remain committed to its implementation, stressing that the true measure of success would be the positive impact on the health and wellbeing of women, children and families throughout Kaduna State.
The ceremony was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, Heads of Health Agencies, Directors of the Ministry of Health, the leadership of the Gates Foundation, senior Government officials, Development Partners, healthcare professionals, and other key stakeholders in the health sector.
The launch further underscores the Kaduna State Government’s determination, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, to strengthen primary healthcare, reduce maternal and child mortality, empower families through informed reproductive choices, and build a healthier and more prosperous Kaduna State through strategic collaboration with partners.
